Wherever there are lakes, there are coots. They look like boring little grey ducks with annoying voices (even though they are an unrelated species). I certainly thought of them as the least interesting bird on the lake—until I had a chance to see them flocking from above. Watch a large flock of coots swirl on top of the lake, following each other in organic patterns until they retire on their roosting island, in our short film made together with Monica Xiao.
